I admit, I myself am sick and tired of NGer's who complain about Justin Bieber, it's mostly because many members here are jealous about him and decide to hate him for no reason at all, I myself don't like his music but I don't hate him but I suspect many hate him because of what he is, a rich and famous kid, it makes no sense whatsoever, it never made sense to hate someone who did nothing wrong to you and worse of all wishing him death as I seen on an old topic someone wishes he get's assassinated and posted a post of pure hate against him, these people need to get a life imo.
It is quite silly. Why people would get so worked up over him is beyond me. I could understand it perhaps if he behaved like a dick, or such like. But he's not, he's just a kid, living his dreams.
If you join Newgrounds, you've got to expect this. If you don't like being around it, leave it. I've been here since '05, & I've got say that NG has saved my life, literally, on more then one occasion thanks to the help & support most of the usual members that log in each day. You cut the occasional slack from stupid comments you make, and you cut others as well, but I've never heard off anyone taking a comment on Newgrounds so bad that they off themselves. Myspace has this title.
As I said, I have no intention of leaving. I'm happy here, i'm just publishing that i'm sure many people have considered from time to time.
NG isn't inherently bad. But it can be needlessly depressive at times.

I think the BBS, or more specifically, the General section is fine. I don't mind the pointless and thoughtless arguing and complaining going on. It seems to me majority of people are just trying to keep themselves entertained when there's nothing else to do. Making people angry over the internet seems to be a popular pastime that, for whatever reason, they find humorous.
On a similar note, I don't think you can really trust all of the people saying they hate Justin Bieber or whatever else is popular these days -- chances are, most of them have listened to one or no songs of his after realizing that the rest of the internet was blindly hating him and decided to follow suit.
I can understand how someone who posts looking for a more serious discussion could find things like that frustrating, but it IS possible to have an intelligent conversation, if you're willing to wade through the throngs of people that are simply posting to get a negative response.
What is amusing, though, is that the same people that inexplicably hate everyone for having a different opinion are often the ones wanting a real discussion.
Everyone is a hypocrite in some way.
I understand that people are using the site as a means of entertainment. Everyone is, we all just have different understandings of entertainment. I may be being ignorant, close minded and obnoxious, but I can't imagine whats entertaining about hostility. Each to their own though.
Interestingly enough it seems as though people have just learnt what to expect from my threads, and thus don't read them if it's not what they're into. This suits me fine.
You can't make assumptions about a whole community just from one small handful of people.
Hence "It's easy to poorly portray a community. Perhaps I have poorly portrayed Newgrounds here."
Furthemore, even peoples responses to this post imply that others have experience, and know what i'm talking about:

Anyway, I don't really think you've managed to insinuate or even portray anyone in any real poor light- NG is what it is, and people will use it to unleash their frustration at life on other users. The community is as much a way of release as it is of entertainment and communication.
Why would I say that most of the anger is re-directed from life? Well, looking through the comments, no-one has really done anything untoward anyone worthy of such directed hate, such directed anger. Troll begets troll begets troll, and with people jumping on bandwagons and, as I said before, re-directing all their frustration, hate, and otherwise offensiveness into the forums, all this hate is illusory and auxiliary - it's all unnecessary, at the very least, it's just, well, a way of release.
I wouldn't really blame them too much for their actions - short of completing sorting out everyone's life and making people realize there's more fun to be had on the internet then shooting each other, then it won't really change. But, I'm sure that most people are aware of this "issue" (I'm pretty sure that, for General at least, the hate is somewhat essential to keeping such a vibrant assortment of regulars) and aren't really willing to change it.
Who knows, maybe one day people will get bored of tearing each other apart. I doubt it, but you've raised the issue through your blog and who knows, maybe a good percentage will read it and reflect.

Ideally, I would encourage everyone to reflect.
If everyone pauses, and thinks about what they are doing; then I'd be happy. I don't care if they don't change, I don't care if they do change. I just want people to be more aware of what they're doing. If they see something they want to change about themselves, it's their responsibility to change it. If they don't; fine.
I like how you are one the few people who put much thought into all of their posts. The BBS needs you kind of guys.
